What is the Booknerd Backlist Reading Challenge?

I started the Booknerd Backlist Challenge as a way to tackle my slightly-downsized but still daunting TBR pile. And, because misery loves company, I decided to open it up to other readers so we can tackle our TBRs together!

This is a laid-back way to read more of the books you already own. Easy as that.

Save the Date!

The Booknerd Backlist Reading Challenge is happening

January 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024

You can start reading your backlist books right away at 12:00am on January 1 and keep reading them until 11:59pm on December 31.

The Rules are Super Simple …

I am AMAZING at making TBRs. (I’ve already made TWO for this challenge, just while writing this post!) However, I suck at sticking to my TBR. So, although there is a BINGO board and challenge prompt list, they are 100% voluntary.

Rule #1: This is a 2024 reading challenge … so you need to start AND finish your book in 2024.
Rule #2: The book you are reading must be published in 2023 or before.
Rule #3: To count for the giveaway, you must review the book. Why? Because authors are amazing and need our help!

That’s it! Read new books, shrink your TBR, and have fun!

How do I sign up?

There’s no official sign-up this year but if you want to read along with us, grab the Challenge button and share it on your blog, Instagram, or other social media platforms. If you write a blog post to share your reading goals, make sure to come back and link it in the comments so we can check it out!

If all of that is too much, just scroll down to the comments and type “I’m in!” and we’re happy to have you join us!

The Booknerd Backlist Challenge is on The StoryGraph!

I am so excited to announce that the 2024 Booknerd Backlist Reading Challenge is on The StoryGraph this year!! I’ve been looking for alternatives to Goodreads for awhile and The StoryGraph is perfect – female-owned with a strong community, giveaways just like Goodreads, and the best part? It’s not controlled by Amazon!

So if you’re all about getting social with your reading challenges, check out the 2024 Booknerd Backlist Reading Challenge on The StoryGraph! (pssst … you can easily add books to the prompts if you join on StoryGraph).

Reading Prompts for the Booknerd Backlist Challenge

These reading prompts are 100% voluntary and can be completed in any order! They’re only here to help if you’re looking at a massive TBR and have no idea what to read (#toomanychoices).

*** PSST … want a printable PDF of the challenge prompts? You’ll find the sign-up at the end of this post (and the password to our entire Resource Library!)

Where do I link up my reviews?

It wouldn’t be a challenge without a link-up, right? And don’t worry, we’ve made it SO EASY to link your reviews! All you have to do is click the button below (that pretty yellow one that says “Link Up Here!”). It will take you to the InLinkz challenge link-up for 2024.

One and Only Booknerd Backlist Review Link Up 2024

If you’d prefer to link your reviews from our blog, no worries! You can head over to the 2024 Booknerd Backlist Reading Challenge link-up post and enter your review links there. Easy peasy!

End of the year GIVEAWAY!

Just like the 2024 Booknerd Backlist Reading Challenge, there will be a GIVEAWAY at the end of the year! Because I’ve had bad luck with scammers and gift cards before, there will not be a gift card up for grabs. Instead …

ONE lucky winner will receive a book of their choosing on Amazon (up to a $20 value).

**Note: You do not have to officially announce your participation in the challenge to be entered into the giveaway. All you have to do is link up ONE review in the linky below.

Download your Challenge printables!

Because I am a teensy bit of a Canva nerd, I made a few printables that you can download for free and use throughout the challenge!

**If there are other pages you would like to see for this challenge, feel free to DM me on Instagram! I am toying with the idea of creating an extended version of the Challenge printables that would be available for $7

And a few final thoughts …

If you have a bookshelf (or three) full of unread books that mock you every time you pick up a new release, we’d love to tackle that TBR with you!

What book has been on your backlist TBR the longest? Happy reading, xo!
