Book Review: Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez

Let’s talk about PART OF YOUR WORLD by Abby Jimenez! This charmingly refreshing novel was a June Book Club pick and my first introduction to Jimenez’s writing. I honestly don’t know why I waited so long to read this book. It’s perfect for any book club looking for a sweet and hilarious romantic comedy to read. Plus, it’s set in my home state of Minnesota! Immediate win.

It Deserves Every One of Its 5 Stars!

Have you read Part of Your World yet?

I have never before read a book that mentioned my hometown. I immediately marked it with my pen (a first for me!) and it was this book that has sparked my love of annotating my books.

Second reason? Chloe. The baby goat in pajamas! And a pig named KEVIN BACON! The entire petting zoo had me in tears laughing so hard. Poor Hunter (Daniel’s dog) gets into so much trouble because of his obsession with Alexis. He brings her not-so-dead presents, gets jabbed by porcupines, and even sprayed by a skunk!

But the real reason for 5 stars? The ugly cry. For a romance to be worthy of 5 stars, there has to be an ugly cry. Jimenez wrote the perfect emotional journey for both the characters and me.

“Just keep her laughing,” Doug said. “When a woman laughs, her eyes are closed more. She won’t notice how ugly you are.”

My Dislikes …

But wait … how can a book be 5 stars without loving every single thing about it? Easy. I couldn’t stand Alexis’s so-called friends (other than Bri … Bri is amazing!). Jessica and Gabby were entitled snobs who thought they were so far above Daniel because he lived in a small town. And then there’s Neil, Alexis’s ex. He’s verbally abusive and just as conceited as her friends. The guy gets the police to let him back into the house they lived in together, just so he can manipulate his way back into her life or bully her into giving him the house.

While I did not enjoy these characters, Jimenez crafted them to play their parts perfectly.

  1. This sounds like the perfect holiday read! The ugly cry had me – there’s just something so wonderful and emotional and satisfying when a story engages you so much that you can’t help but be so committed to a happy ending!

  2. Sounds like it’s worth spending some time with. I’m with you on the entitled characters. I’m dealing with some entitled people at my job and it’s astounding to see what boundaries people think are okay to blur (or stomp on) without even blinking an eye.

    1. Hi Rosey,

That really is difficult. I tend to think of characters as real while I’m reading books so if ones act a certain way, my brain judges them as it would a human. Sounds silly but it makes the reading experience even better for me. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts! Hopefully things will improve for you quickly.

  3. You had me at pig in pajamas. It sounds like a book that I would enjoy reading; I will be adding it to my next reading list. Thanks for sharing this great review with us.
