10 Sci-Fi Books on my TBR | #NationalScienceFictionDay (+PDF coloring pages)

|

Happy January 2nd! The most exciting thing about today is that it’s National Science Fiction Day! Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is supposed to be about our favorite books read in 2023 but, thanks to heavy meds from a broken elbow and the sudden desire to learn an entirely new skill, I didn’t read a lot. Lots of copywriting articles, not so many books. So I’m going to share ten exciting science fiction books that are on my TBR.

A bit about National Science Fiction Day

National Science Fiction Day is for those who love all things science fiction. Every January 2nd (the same day as Isaac Asimov’s birthday), there’s an entire day devoted to science fiction! Share your favorite books, movies, and even songs with family and friends (or the blogging community so you don’t irritate your loved ones 😜).

Fun ways to celebrate National Sci-Fi Day

Read Sci-Fi Books

As book lovers, the most obvious answer is READ SCI-FI BOOKS! I am a serious science fiction movie and TV show nerd but I’ll admit that I haven’t read too many books – other than a Star Trek book or two, and the first book in the Murderbot Diaries (highly recommend, by the way).

If you’re looking for science fiction books to read, you can pick any from this list, or check out the Ice Planet Barbarians series (for those who like to mix their sci-fi with some blue alien romance). You could also pick up any of the classic science fiction books out there (you know, the ones that made this genre great from the start!) – Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Fahrenheit 451, The Time Machine, or Brave New World.

Watch Sci-Fi Movies or TV

There are SO MANY fantastic movies and shows out there! Of course, the obvious ones – Star Wars and Star Trek (any fellow Trekkies out there?)

Need some recommendations? Check out a few of these:

Doctor Who
Rick and Morty (if you’re in the mood for a cartoon – definitely not for kids, though!)
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
A Wrinkle in Time
Divergent
Dune
Farscape
Stranger Things
The Mandalorian
The Matrix
Star Trek Beyond
Star Wars Rogue One
Firefly
Terra Nova
Eureka

Have some sci-fi coloring fun!

If you have kids who love to color (or if you color as an adult – there’s no shame in it!), spending the afternoon coloring some out-of-this-world pages is the perfect way to celebrate National Science Fiction Day!

  1. I don’t consider myself to be a science fiction reader (I lean way more toward fantasy) but I’ve tried to incorporate more of it in the past year or two. I’ve read 4 from your list and 3 are already on my TBR. I may have to start calling myself a science fiction reader! I’ve always liked science fiction shows & movies, though I don’t get as heavily into them as serious Trekkies. I’ve watched a lot of the stuff on that list too. I hope you enjoy all these when you get to them!
